This is a comic book review of JLA Earth 2. After my last negative comic book review, you might be glad to know this one is positive!

JLA, aka the Justice League of America are one of my favourite superhero groups from DC comics. The Earth 2 comic book, gives a JLA story an excellent twist.

For example can you imagine a Lex Luthor who is actually a superhero? Perhaps you could if he was from an alternative Earth, and one which has a ‘Crime Syndicate of America’! What is worse, on the alternate Earth, the CSA are not the underdogs, but the power house in control.

For the JLA have found their match and in this Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely story, it is well paced and presented. The 2000 comic book appearance is of high quality as well, from paper type, to colours, it looks and feels good.

The JLA do go visit the alternative Earth and vice versa, which provide plenty of action to enjoy. My favourite part of the story was definitely the alternate Gotham City with a Commisioner Wayne and an Owlman.

In the CSA you have Ultraman who is the equivalent of Superman, Owlman for Batman, Superwoman for Wonder Woman, Power Ring for Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner) and Johnny Quick for the Flash. Plus the JLA also have the Martian Manhunter and Aquaman, and the CSA are controlling Brianiac.

However don’t expect a major battle between the CSA and JLA, it doesn’t happen! Which I felt was a shame, but the story was still good nevertheless.

It is fun to see how the CSA characters interact and what their motivations and loyalties are. Thrown towards the end are a couple of nice twists to the storyline, which bring the comic book to a well written end.
