Canoeing along the Basingstoke Canal – Frimley

Canoeing Basingstoke Canal Frimley

Back in 1989 I spent a few days canoeing along the Basingstoke Canal. The section I canoed was between the Frimley Lodge part to Lakeside Country Club and probably a bit further along.

It was one of those activity groups for children during the summer holiday. I remember canoeing into Lakeside Country Club’s mini-lake. We didn’t journey down a long stretch of the Basingstoke Canal, but instead enjoyed hanging out as a group, learning to canoe and having some fun. I took to canoeing very quickly and soon after canoed on a lake in the lake district whilst on a family holiday.

Other summer time activity groups over the years were: Gordon Boy School (athletics, soccer, hockey), Tennis at Camberley, Aldershot Lido (tennis, swimming, activities) and more. I didn’t spend all my summer holidays in activity groups, just a week or two every so often. It was great fun and I’m grateful my Mum organised for me to take part.
