Tron Legacy – Company Christmas event

Tomorrow is my company Christmas event. So what is my company doing? Being a tech company it was decided to watch Tron Legacy and then afterward eat pizza! Sounds like a winning combination.

So what is Tron Legacy? Released tomorrow in UK cinemas and in many other worldwide locations, it is the follow up to the 1982 Tron movie starring oscar winner Jeff Bridges. Jeff Bridges plays Flynn is a brilliant young tech who finds himself at heads with the CEO of the company he works for, which turns out is the least of his problems. Check out the original 1982 trailer below.

Twenty-eight years later and it is still an enjoyable watch. Every few years or more I will sit down and watch Tron. When I heard about the sequel I have to admit I became eager to find out more. So did the original storyline wrap up the movie nicely or leave a question hanging? No, the movie is a great standalone, but the world they created should be exciting to explore once again.

Though there are major hurdles for the movie to overcome. Firstly the audience has become seasoned to watching special effects. Secondly they have an expectation issue. Couple these with a reasonable long high profiled marketing campaign and the movie has to be above par to achieve praise. The storyline needs to be strong, durable and not just a neat wrap around the special effects.

Lets face it though if the movie is even just ‘good’, it should be a hit and generate sales for a long time to come. All of us who didn’t see the original yet in later years discovered it and watched it a few times should be interested. After twenty-eight years that must be a serious number of fans curious about the sequel, plus with new generations now tech savvy and daft punk assisting with music, this could become a serious box office smash and beyond.

Enough writing, I’m off to take my lightcycle out for a spin. See you on the grid programs.

  1. Hi Andrew,
wish you so much fun with your workmates tomorrow. Pizza and movie is always a great combination!!:D Have fun and please tell if you can recommend seeing it so that me and Kai hit the movies too!:D

  2. Hi Linn,

Glad you agree on the winning combination. Though with the huge veggie fry-up i ate for breakfast and the chocolate raisins i am taking to the cinema, pizza might be a step too far today. Will see. 🙂

I’ve waited so long for this movie, I hope it is great.

Cheers for stopping by and leaving a comment. I will let you know what I thought of the movie.

    All the best

    Andrew

  3. That sounds like an awesome plan for a Christmas party! 🙂

I hope you have fun and the movie turns out to be great (I’m sure Lee is keen to see it too).

  4. Hi Tracey,

The movie was fun and the digital effects gob smacking, the storyline lacking. I ate too much pizza afterward!

Hope you have a grand weekend and cheers for stopping by.

    All the best

    Andrew
