Our Extended Weekend

second-hand books

We took Friday off and decided to visit libraries on our extended weekend. Just so happens these libraries are located at lovely locations across the island. The journeys involved travelling through breath taking countryside, along coastal roads and twice having a picnic at Sandown beach.

In the end we visited six libraries across Friday and Saturday and have borrowed some gems. We could have sat at home and requested the books for a small fee, but it was a great excuse to take in the sights of our beautiful area and to discover new authors in the process.

The autumn weather wasn’t always in our favour. At times it was incredibly windy at the coast, but we love autumn and didn’t mind. Saturday was less windy and more sun. As we sat there eating our lunch at the beach it was great to see families strolling along the beach, the kids running into the sea, jumping the waves, deckchairs being used and the dogs chasing tennis balls. Gone are the summer tourists, left are quiet beaches, it is wonderful.

We took this all in via the fantastic local bus network. Sitting top deck and taking in the views and often seeing fields full of cows, sheep and horses.

In the evenings we’ve had some lovely meals, accompanied by some gorgeous red wines, a gift from my parents. Tonight I will cook a huge vegetarian roast meal, perfect for a Sunday.

Today there isn’t a cloud in the sky, tempting to wander down to the seafront, but instead relaxing at home.

I didn’t take that many photos, but a small selection can be found in a gallery below:

  1. Aww, reading your post was like a small holiday for me,Andrew. :)Thanks for sharing your videos and photos with us readers!:)

Wow, you really got a lot of books. For how long are you able to keep them??
Here in Hamburg you can only keep them for 3weeks and can lengthen them three times. I am happy that you and Sarah have had a wonderful and long weekend. That is something that loads up the batteries:)
Me and Kai are going to have an extended weekend this week. Yay!! 🙂 Have a blessed day, Andrew&Sarah! 🙂

  2. Wow – that’s one big pile of books. Best of luck working your way through all of those (you’ll be busy for a while I think).

    🙂

  3. Hi Linn,

There are more video clips over on the youtube account, but thought I would only share a couple here. I didn’t film at all the locations, which I should of.

I can’t remember how many times we can renew the books, but it is probably three or four times. Plus we are allowed to keep them for three weeks also without renewing.

Like yourself, we read a lot and so I’m sure within a couple of books they will all be read.

Thank you for your kind words. I hope you and Kai enjoy your extended weekend this week and I look forward to hearing about it.

Hope you have a great weekend and as always enjoy reading your replies.

    All the best

    Andrew

  4. Hi Tracey,

Cheers for leaving a reply. Your right, they will keep us busy. We both always have a book on the go and read at lunches, evenings etc.

I’ve always carried books with me, so when I have a spare moment I read, even if only a page. Though if I have company or a great view, I will chat or watch the world go by instead.

Each book will probably be read between a few days and a week.

Cheers again for leaving the reply.

    All the best

    Andrew
