How to Make Egg Free Homemade Yorkshire Puddings


I adore Vegetarian roast meals, especially when you rewrite the rules. Forget the long preparation times! Forget only eating on a Sunday!

A roast meal can be a few items, it can be many. It can be cheap or expensive and thus typically quick or time consuming to make. For me they have not been sidelined to a Sunday afternoon, but any day of the week. I love vegetarian roast meals, they are great Autumn, Winter and Spring food.

Mint sauce splashed like a Jackson Pollock. Crisp roast potatoes drowned in a mushroom and onion gravy. Insane helpings of mustard to clean the nasal passages. Succulent vegetables from the market. A generous helping of stuffing. Egg free Yorkshire Pudding mopping up the cauliflower cheese sauce.

Egg free homemade Yorkshire Pudding is one of my favourite additions. I’ve not attempted to make it yet, but luckily for us my wonderful Girlfriend does and here is how she makes them.


  • Four heaped tablespoons of plain floor
  • Pinch of salt
  • Half a pint of milk or water
  • One tablespoon of Orgran no egg
  • Two tablespoons of lukewarm water
  • Olive oil / Rice Bran Oil

Step 1 – In a bowl mix the orgran no egg and the lukewarm water until it is a smooth paste.

Step 2 – Add the plain flour and salt to the paste and mix well.

Step 3 – Slowly blend the milk into the mixture and when your finished the texture should be akin to single cream.

Step 4 – Add the oil to your chosen oven tray. You can use a tray either suitable for a large yorkshire pudding or a cake tray to make individual ones. Place the tray in the oven on gas mark 8 until it is hot.

Step 5 – Carefully remove the empty tray from the oil. Then carefully add the mixture and cook for approximately 30 minutes at gas mark 8 (232°C).

    Hmm, they look lovely.:P Is the taste so different from the “normal” ones?? Last year in December I made the regular ones for the first time and they really went well!!:)The taste itself was unusual as we dont know anything similar as a side dish in Germany but I surly try it again. Someday also the veggie ones!

    I’m so trying that recipe, can you use egg though do you know? We’re not quite at the stage of dropping eggs but I know Tracey considers it all the time.

    What do you use as your roast or is it just the veggies?

    Linn – Cheers. The taste is no different as far as I remember. Yorkshire puddings are quite tough for many to cook, but these rise and taste delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a veggie roast style meal in Germany on my trips there. What do you like with a roast meal?

    Lee – Glad you like the yorkshire puddings sir. I guess you can use eggs, but I don’t think my better half has ever made yorkshire pudding with eggs, so unsure of recommendations.

    Sometimes we have a meat-free replacement, but more often now we skip having an alternative for meat and just focus on the rest of the meal. It seriously reduces the cost of the meal also.

    Over here you have of course Meat, sauce and veggies. A long with this mainly go potatoes or dumplings sometimes noodles or rice. 🙂

    Vegetarian Dumplings?? Arent normal dumplings veggie?? As out of potatoes?? Or are those veggie dumplings out of special veggies??

    It all depends on the suet you use to make the dumplings. Many in the UK are not vegetarian, but the one we use is.

    Well we made them and the whole family loved them…they turned out not like ur normal yorkshire pudding massive. But like cup cakes but by God they filled us up. Thank you for the recipie as our mum is vegetarian….We will save plenty of money and will DEFINATELY be making them again for all occassions.
