Fitness and Weight Loss – March 2012

Back in 2009 I lost three stone of weight within a year. Then in 2011, what I’m calling the ‘perfect storm’, everything went haywire and fitness and diet frankly were not a concern. However with increased weight and other issues my health did take a turn for the worse, as well as myself growing out of some clothes. My focus for the year is ‘repair’, and health is included in the focus. I’m not talking about going overboard, but moderation, consistency and focus.

If I eat pizza and chips for dinner one night, frankly it doesn’t bother me. Chances are the rest of the dinners that week were quite healthy and included salads, plus as I’m a vegetarian I don’t eat fish or meat. Also I’ve not touched any alcohol since September last year, rarely drink fizzy drinks, don’t add sugar to drinks and I don’t eat eggs.

The same for exercise, you won’t find me in a gym, but instead walking more often during a day. I’ve even incorporated it into my working life, resulting in walking distances to work outdoors for a day, which I’ve mentioned recently on the blog. Plus at weekends I’m walking more, although I work most weekends currently.

My wonderful girlfriend and I brought scales to help track the progress, but not on a weekly or even monthly basis. I just weigh myself when I feel like it. So that way I’m not worrying if I put on a pound, or whether I hardly lost anything one week to the next. No point putting pressure on myself.

Indeed I’m fully expecting at some stage the weight loss to decrease, as I focus on muscle growth more. I’ve always been a strong male, but I intend to further increase my upper body strength further at some stage later this year.

Anyway enough about the why and how, the weight loss has been over a stone so far, since first weighing myself on 20th December. It hasn’t been an amazing amount of weight loss, but I’m reasonably happy with the results so far.

I’m currently recording my weight in kg and stone, plus measuring my waist. At some stage I might share the full details, I’m unsure. There probably won’t be monthly posts about my efforts, but perhaps a few more posts scattered throughout the year or an update early 2013.

  1. Sounds like a nice relaxed approach to health and fitness Andrew … as of course it should be. There’s nothing worse than trying to instigate drastic changes that are not sustainable in the long term. I always find it so much better to make better choices on most days just a normal part of my life.

Well done on your efforts so far! 🙂

  2. Hello Tracey,

Absolutely agree, that changes need to be sustainable for the long-term, or at least until they have served their purpose.

Thank you for your encouragement and I hope you have a lovely week. Cheers for stopping by and leaving a reply.

    All the best

    Andrew
