Book review: Time – Stephen Baxter

3 Small Candles

This is a book review of ‘Time’ by Stephen Baxter.

From my bookcase this Stephen Baxter book didn’t disappoint second time around. This book is breath taking, especially if like me you’ve read a lot of sci-fi. Often the endings are predictable in books, but I had forgotten some parts of this book and was surprised once again by some of the conclusions.

Reid Malenfant has appeared in a few of Stephen’s books and this book revolves around him, his drive and ambitions. From humanity going back to the stars to mine for resources to even larger plans, if you’re a Stephen Baxter fan, this book shouldn’t disappoint.

I am a huge space fan and this book was a geek fest of shuttle development and space travel. Yet reaching space isn’t just about money and ambition and that is where his ex-wife Emma comes in, along with others. Helping iron out and pave the way to the stars…….

Now here is the thing, the story derails and you find yourself rushing off in another direction. Humanity possibly faces extinction in two hundred years. Plus there are super intelligent children being born around the world. At first I felt distracted by these aspects of the book and then it all pulls together quite nicely.

So if you want to read about messages from the future, different universes or geek out on the space tech then this book is for you. Though be prepared for plenty of non-space related story. It is a Stephen Baxter book and expect ‘epic’. Even once I had finished the book I found myself still thinking about the topics. Recommended.
