Book Review: Moving Pictures – Sir Terry Pratchett

3 Small Candles

I’m a huge fans of the Discworld series of novels. Wasn’t always the case and when I met him once, it was to have a book signed for a present for my sister, not for myself. Now I drool at the thought of reading a discworld book and this book didn’t disappoint.

Set in the discworld series the book revolves around trolls, humans, dwarfs and even animals starring in movies. The lead character stars in silent movies and very quickly realises there is more to the lure of film making than simply money & fame, indeed dangerous forces are at work. Usual discworld characters abound including a larger role for Cut-Throat Dibbler than normal, which was an enjoyable bonus.

You don’t have to read the discworld books in order, but this is an earlier one and the only reason I noticed was due to one character not being part of the police force yet. Other than that the style, characters and pace of the book was the usual quality you expect.

The writing skill of Sir Terry Pratchett is incredible. The discworlds books are funny and I guess fall into the fantasy category, which normally I avoid, but the discworld series is in a class of it’s own. If you’ve never read one, don’t leave it as long as I originally did (years), borrow or buy this book soon.
